Bantam AAA

The South East Athletic Club Bantam AAA Tigers are going back to the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Now, to figure out who they’ll play.

The Tigers earned a weekend split, losing on home ice Saturday before a win in Calgary Sunday that kept them third in their five-team division with two games left in the regular season. The top four advance.

At Hockey Hounds Arena on Saturday, the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers won 10-3. The line of Rhett Melnyk, Jordan Gustafson and Teydon Trembecky combined for a whopping 18 points, with Melnyk and Trembecky each potting hat tricks and Gustafson six assists. Dawson Seitz and Dayden Collier each had a goal and an assist, while Tyler Miller had SEAC’s other goal.

Sunday saw the Tigers’ Roman Cherniak score with 4:13 remaining to earn a 2-1 win over the Calgary Northstar Sabres. Collier had the other goal and Kaiden Morin made 21 saves.

South East has another two games, including their last of the regular season Sunday at home to Red Deer, one of the two teams they could meet in the first round of playoffs.

Midget 15's

The South East Athletic Club’s midget 15-year-old team lost 5-4 in Okotoks Sunday.

Hayden Prosofsky assisted on all four Tigers goals, Cayden Dumanowski scored three of them and Tanner Gold the other, but Okotoks never trailed. Brendan Olson made 28 saves as both teams registered 35 shots on goal.

With four games to go in the regular season, SEAC is sixth in the standings. They host Calgary Royals Blue Saturday and the Red Deer North Star Chiefs Sunday at Hockey Hounds.

The Midget 15's have qualified for the Sutter Cup Playoff Pool this season, after several seasons in the Consolation Pool.

The top 8 teams in each conference qualify for playoff Pool A and B - resulting in 4 teams per pool. Teams play each other once in each pool in the round robin, totalling 3 games. Then, the top 2 seeds in Pool A and B move onto the semi-finals. The top 2 seeds in Pool C will vie for the consolation crown.

The Sutter Cup goes March 6th-10th in Cochrane.
