It was set up as a key divisional matchup but it was the Airdrie Xtreme who had the killer instinct in Saturday’s Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League matchup with the South East Tigers.
Airdrie won 8-2 on home ice to take over second spot in the Ram South Division from SEAC.
Caleb Garrecht ended the shutout bid with 5:03 to go and Sammy Hynes added a late marker for the Tigers.
SEAC did rebound with a 3-2 win over last-place Okotoks Sunday, Garrecht getting all three goals including the game-winner early in the third period. Beck Boiteau made 35 saves in net for the visitors, who are still a point back of Airdrie with a game in hand.
They host fourth-place Lethbridge this Sunday, 12 p.m. at Hockey Hounds.
