U17 AAA - $11, 866.73 Raised at Cancer Awareness Game

The SEAC Tigers U17 AAA hockey team hosted their Cancer Awareness Game on Sunday, Nov. 10 raising $11, 866.73 for the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre in Medicine Hat.

This sets a new fundraising record for the annual game, surpassing last year’s total of $5,734.35

The Tigers are members of the Alberta Elite Hockey League and were joined by the Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes for the game to recognize those affected by cancer.

Honoured at the game were individuals who have battled or are currently battling cancer.

This included Tigers goalie Carson Jerome, a parent of a former SEAC Tigers player Danae Collier, and an uncle of a current SEAC Tigers player Denny Seibel.

Fundraising efforts included raffles, a silent auction, team made Caramel Popcorn sales, a 50/50 and sponsorship donations.

A large portion of the money raised will be used to help support local cancer patients with the costs associated with getting to treatment that is not offered in Medicine Hat.

An estimated 400 fans were in the stands at the Kinplex Arena for the contests, with the Hurricanes coming away with a close 6-5 win.

The Tigers players and coaching staff visited the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre for a tour on Oct. 24 to help them better understand the impact of their fundraising efforts. A great article from the Medicine Hat News on the game:
